What's important to us?

Health and Safety

Hickinson Engineering realises that focusing on our people’s health and well-being improves employee engagement and productivity. With that we are dedicated to achieving the highest health and safety standards with the approach being one of continuous improvement within all departments.

We use Citation’s Atlas platform for all our Health & Safety and HR requirements.

Training

J Hickinson & Son has a program of recruiting apprentices which has been very successful in bringing new talent into the company and into the industry. Through our commitment to training, the skills of each generation of engineers are passed on to the next, equipping them to meet the challenges of a new industrial environment. Following further recruitment each year we now have several apprentices working at Hickinsons at different stages in their development from 1st year full time college to HNC or HND level. All training is carried out by EKGTA (East Kilbride Group Training Association).

The Environment

It is important to consider not just the environmental performance during operation but also through manufacture. In a machining factory environment it is essential to deal with effluents and other waste within the manufacturing process. By achieving ISO14001 certification we will be able to clearly demonstrate our commitment to reducing waste and recycling materials where appropriate.

QUALITY

We at J Hickinson & Son are committed to delivering a quality product to exact specifications of our customer, with full certification and traceability to ISO9001 supported by a skilled workforce.

At every stage of manufacturing including administration, purchasing and project engineering to the all-important team who implemented a production run – there is support provided.  This is the point at which component quality is determined.  Any discrepancies which do arise are dealt with by corrective action and also ‘prevention of recurrence’ action by addressing the root cause of any problems e.g. methods, equipment, information etc.  Providing a complete Quality Package.

Company management is dedicated to a continuous appraising and improving process with respect to the quality system and encourages, by formal and informal training methods, the full understanding and participation of all company personnel.
The Quality Manual is the premier document of the quality system and its requirements, together with the requirements of the documents referred to therein, are mandatory on all company personnel.

DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURABILITY

This is a service we offer to all our clients in all industries within many engineering disciplines. DFM is a key process which allows our customers Designers/Engineers to work closely with our Engineering team to design and engineer a product in order to facilitate the manufacturing process which in turn reduces manufacturing costs.

This is a key process due to the design practise not only focusing on the design aspect of a part but also on the productability. In essence, Design for Manufacture and not Design for Designs sake.
